Wondering about ClearWire?

ClearWire is a new wireless ISP that just recently launched in Seattle with a massive direct-mail marketing campaign. But the technology is so new, it’s virtually untested.

We here at BDPNetworks are skeptical about anything bleeding-edge: does it really deliver?

Reviews & feedback are sparse, but I was able to find some good feedback at Broadband Reports – click hear to read it.

Do you know of anyone who has had direct experience with it here in King County, Washington?

My experience with clearwire has been a bad one. I am not getting anywhere close to the advertised bandwidth and in trying to bring the problems to their support team, there is no effort to get the problem solved, just excuses and no offer to refund since they haven’t delivered the service paid for. I even requested contact from an executive and got a run around by their service department on that too. I would not recommend them to an enemy even at this point! This account was given to me for a year by a friend to help me be able to show and sell my art on the Internet because I am disabled and the service works so lousy in trying to upload print files because they are throttling bandwidth on everyone. This is not how they represent their service to be!!!!

    Hi Randall –

We’ve found that antenna placement is extremely important; in some buildings signal strength will vary as much as 3 “bars” within a six foot area. Our experience with ClearWire so far, once we got past placement, has been extremely positive in a situation where the customer could not get high speed DSL otherwise. The service seems to be reliable and the speeds are good.

I’ll contact our rep and ask him about your specific situation.
